Before this season started I was hoping that the Royals would be about a .500 team in August and that Jacobs, Guillen and Farnsworth would be doing well enough to get traded for a catching prospect, middle infielder and/or a real corner outfielder (like Adam Dunn). I figured that The team was a year away from actually contending for the division title and that those veterans who really aren't that great could be shipped off to contenders for some real value that the Royals could actually use next year.
Next year
Lets say that Gordon comes back and pulls a Greinke. With Mike Moustakas at third Gordon who is a very good devensive thirdbasemen could probably move to second easier than Tehan. Or, Gorden could go to first where he would be a huge upgrade over Butler or Jacobs. Tehan moves back to the outfield to replace Guillen.
But the team's start made me think that the Royals coud be contenders this year. If Farnsworth's appearances are limited and the Royals get a little more offense they could win the division.
